6 Steps for Easy Motivation

6 Steps for Easy Motivation

Before we dive into 6 steps of Motivation we must understand the basic types:

1-    Internal or Intrinsic Motivation

2-    External or Extrinsic Motivation

External Motivation is good and needed from time to time however the long lasting motivation is always Internal. Internal Motivation starts with a WHY and FOR WHAT. External is just a catalyst. Remember whatever you focus on will expand.

During one of my sessions with an International Women Cricketer I saw her doing things beyond normal girls. She is a super girl. I saw her working out harder than men. Running longer hours, working out more than normal and even testing her limits. I was very impressed and asked her, “You are already so motivated and hard working, what makes you come to me for a session?” She smiled and said, “Sir, this hard work, waking up early and pushing my limits is all but natural for me, I don’t think I am doing something extra, but I need your help in terms of my performance during high pressure matches, some times I don’t understand how to motivate myself to perform better when I am already having a bad day.”

Guess what, the work out she does needs a lot and lot of Internal Motivation and so she has overcome the most difficult part of the lives of majority who lack motivation to get out of the bed so early and push their limits daily.  The only small tweak I had to do with her was to re-align her external motivator to play at international level along with the same parameters that internal motivator works on. Her performance enhanced because her Internal motivator increased her WHY and enjoyment and fun in what used to be a pressure cooker.

Six (6) main sources of motivation that can be positive or negative both are:

1-    Incentive

2-    Fear

3-    Achievement

4-    Growth

5-    Power

6-    Social

Each individual has a different MOTIVATOR so choose yours wisely and once found stick to it. Think about what inspires you to really raise your bar and increase your performance, focus, and effort to attain your goals? Really evaluate yourself and see what inspires and motivates you to push yourself harder and reach for your goals. Once you can answer what form(s) of motivation inspire(s) you to reach farther and work harder, you will have an easier time knowing what goals will interest you and inspire you to work harder and do more.

Once a client came to me and asked that “how can I find what motivates me”? So I asked him the following questions and he got his answers:

1-    Did you SET YOUR GOALS that INTEREST YOU?

2-    Did you FIND your INSPIRATION in your SURROUNDINGS?

3-    Did you ESTABLISH a CHAMPION/SUCCESS MINDSET?

4-    Did you ALIGN your VALUES with your WORK?

5-    Did you SURROUND yourself with SUCCESSFUL PEOPLE?

6-    DID YOU FIND A MENTOR WHO CAN GUIDE and MOTIVATE YOU towards your GOAL?

He found his ANSWERS and is now on the ROAD TO SUCCESS.

DID YOU?

and ARE YOU?
